| Sumario: | Drug testing is widely and increasingly implemented in worksites throughout the United States. Programs are most common in bigger worksites, those industries affected by drug-testing legislation, and those sectors with high-risk or unionized labor forces. Random drug testing is the most common form of testing, and all employees and applicants are mostly included in testing programs. Although testing is commonly conducted by external firms, larger worksites are significantly more likely to conduct the tests within their worksites than their smaller counterparts. Proliferation of the number and scope of programs, combined with the movement toward random testing, suggests continued strengthening of employers' dedication to systematic identification of and intervention in cases of drug and, to a lesser extent, alcohol abuse at their worksites.
