| Sumario: | The Occupational Outlook Handbook's statements on employment outlook are based on projections of employment change. As a result, the quality of employment outlook data in the handbook depends greatly on the accuracy of the projections. Up to 1960, discussions of employment outlook were largely founded on informed judgments about the direction and magnitude of employment change. After 1960, however, the journals' statements on employment outlook have drawn on a set on statistical projections. The procedures for developing the projections have changed a great deal over the years because of research devoted to improving methods for developing employment projections. Although the occupational projections developed have captured most of the general trends in occupational employment, the accuracy of these projections has not changed over time.
