| Sumario: | The word “career” needs to be redefined so it concentrates on recognizing opportunities and adapting, rather than progressing up a career ladder. According to many economists, 70 percent of good jobs in the present and future U.S. economy will not require a four-year college degree. Instead, some type of additional training and education, such as an associate degree or technical training certificate, will be needed. Over 190,000 professional technical jobs are currently vacant and employers are searching in vain for qualified people to fill the posts: By 2005, American business will require over 1 million new high-tech workers. The initiatives of various companies, including Boeing, Siemens, and Intel, to rectify the problem are examined, and five key challenges of the new “Education Revolution” are discussed.
