Sumario:The aging U.S. population creates a need to study the role that retirement plays on expenditure decisions of various demographic groups of retirees. The fastest-growing sector of the population consists of individuals aged 65 and older, a group that will play an increasingly important role in the future economy. In addition to the concerns this issue may raise for policymakers, especially those involved in providing adequate care and protection for older consumers, the decision to retire has significant implications for individuals and families. The writer describes recent research on consumer expenditure patterns in retirement and the use of regression analysis to explore differences in expenditure patterns.
