Essentially, Chomsky's exercise in independent thinking is a vulgar, lockstep Marxism according to which every American action is determined by a predatory economic appetite and the drive to achieve global dominance; an affinity for Third World “revolutionary” regimes that control the press, repress inquiry, and brutalize people who express inconvenient ideas; a denial of America's historic achievement in winning the cold war and of the great gains for freedom involved; and an invocation of the “Nazi” epithet to smear the democratic societies of Israel and the United States. |
