| Sumario: | An important battle in the ongoing conflict between science and religion will involve the prospects for “cybernetic immortality.” Cyberimmortality refers to the possibility that converging technologies will provide humans with extended lives within information systems, robots, or genetically engineered biological organisms. This would necessitate redefining human personalities as dynamic patterns of information and human life as a process of evolution from material to computational planes of existence. Socioeconomic tensions will reinforce religious faith as an opposing force because deprived populations would probably be unable to afford the first cyberimmortaity systems that appear. |
