      ab: The theory that male and female brains differ in their organization is nothing new, but it wasn't until the 1960s and 1970s that experiments began to point out some of these differences. Initially, neurologists believed that women's brains were more diffusely organized than men's brains, but this conclusion was premature. More recent research on brain-damaged individuals indicates that women's brains may be more, less, or equally diffusely organized as men's brains, depending on the particular intellectual function under consideration. These differences may be due to genetic, physiological, and psychological factors. A complex number of variables contribute to the development of the brain in both sexes; thus, sex is not a reliable indicator of intellectual ability.
