When he was caught, he was charged with wire fraud and computer fraud, among other techie crimes. He had been caught before—and once underwent computer-addiction counseling on judge's orders—but had been lured into the game again. After running from the FBI, spending several years in prison, and making a fresh start, Mitnick has returned to hacking, but this time, it is what he terms “ethical hacking.” He protects the types of businesses he used to target from the sort of outlaw geek he once was. In an interview, Mitnick discusses such topics as how he got interested in hacking, whether he feels guilty about what he did, and how he is viewed by the hacker community.
