| Sumario: | Transhumanism is picking up new devotees and new energy in its quest to enhance the human body and make it immortal. A blend of science, faith, and philosophy, the essence of the movement is radical life extension and life expansion. Followers of transhumanism view the human body as a work in progress. They believe that evolution took humanity this far and that only technology will take humanity further. Transhumanism views illness, aging, and death as unnecessary hindrances that humanity has the right and the responsibility to overcome. The movement is currently developing strong roots in Silicon Valley. The World Transhumanist Association, which has around 5,000 members, moved to Palo Alto in 2007, and a number of other like-minded organizations have recently emerged in the Bay Area. As a result of money from dot-com millionaires, a fringe factor of technological advancement is being pushed center stage, for good or bad.
