In 2008, a record-breaking 275,284 complaints were filed, according to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center's latest report. Crimes, both fraudulent and nonfraudulent, rose by more than 32 percent in the United States from 2004 to 2008, and the amount of money reported lost annually soared from $68 million to $265 million. |
