      ab: New York psychiatrist David Forrest believes that the academically gifted but athletically and socially inept people stigmatized as “nerds” may be better adapted than others to a technological, information-oriented civilization. According to his theory, nerds' brains have more highly developed frontal lobes and less developed limbic and perceptual-motor systems than other people's brains. The frontal, or rostral, region of the brain governs skills that involve conceptualization, abstraction, verbalization, calculation, and integration. Several recent studies have also found an association between high intelligence and nearsightedness, which may contribute to nerds' characteristic focus on close detail.
