      ab: The Vietnam Head Injury Study of 1,200 veterans who suffered brain injuries, conducted at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, has helped psychologists to establish links between specific parts of the brain and aspects of human behavior. An unexpected finding was that most of those who suffered prolonged unconsciousness had left-hemisphere brain injuries. The researchers also found differences in face recognition between those with left- and right-temporal lobe injuries. The study found that preinjury performance on an intelligence test was a better predictor of postinjury performance on the same test than volume of brain loss or location of injury. This suggests that the brain is adaptable.
