| Sumario: | Part of a special section on a May 1985 supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS). The survey represents the Bureau of Labor Statistics' first attempt to determine the size of the home-based work force. More than 8 million Americans reported at least eight hours per week of home-based work. The more hours of home-based work an individual performs, the more likely the person is to be engaged in a service industry. Home-based work offers some persons the opportunity to combine the roles of parent and worker more effectively. Recent arguments concerning home-based work have focused on the apparel and accessory industries. |
