| Sumario: | Beginning with January 1987 estimates, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will be updated to more accurately monitor price changes for goods and services in the 1980s. The revised index makes more accurate tracking of price changes possible because it is based on a market basket of goods and services that reflects 1982–84 spending patterns instead of the 1972–73 patterns previously used. Changes in consumption since the last revision have altered the relative importance of the goods and services priced in the CPI. |
