Sumario:	The Consumer Price Index's medical care component underwent revision when the CPI was revised in January 1987. The CPI revision had four objectives: to update the content and weights of the market basket of products and services for the CPI, to improve the statistical sampling of items used in calculating the CPI, to update statistical methods needed for computing CPI contents, and to improve operating procedures. Changes in the methodology, consumption patterns, data sources, and definitions used in the revised medical care services component are analyzed.
