| Sumario: | A research group at the University of Utah has developed a computer model for selecting candidates. The model is called I VOTE, for Informed Voting Options Through Education. In the I VOTE procedure, a panel of experts describes candidates' positions on important issues. Voters then fill out a questionnaire on the same issues, and voters' answers are matched with candidates' profiles to determine which candidates would best represent the respondents on important issues. The researchers hope to make I VOTE available for the fall general election in the 100 largest voting districts in the country. They believe that systems like theirs could free politics from the domination of the two major parties and allow for competition from better-qualified candidates. |
