| Sumario: | The readability of educational material on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) distributed to drug users was evaluated. A total of 27 materials were collected from 4 sites and assessed for readability using 3 different computer programs. The average grade-equivalent readability for the 4 sites was 7.37, with much variation being observed across materials. The average grade-equivalent reading levels of 348 injection drug users and cocaine smokers from the 4 sites not undergoing treatment was 7.1–8.5, with more variability found in individual sites. Much remains to be done to make HIV/AIDS educational material more consistently accessible.
