Data were drawn from 148 mothers who had a child with mental retardation and a control group of 101 mothers whose child did not have mental retardation or any other diagnosed learning or behavior problem. Results revealed that Latina mothers who had children with mental retardation exhibited significantly higher levels of depressive symptomatology relative to Latina mothers who did not have a child with mental retardation.
