Sumario:A study was conducted to examine qualitative aspects of mother-child relationships and strengths in these relationships among young adult children who experienced parental divorce. Data were gathered from interviews with a sample of 58 college students. The results indicated that mothers were often viewed as friends, especially by daughters, and their withdrawal from caregiving was generally welcomed. A sense of equality, closeness, and friendship was contributed through mothers' leaning on children for emotional support and advice.
