Computer networks -- Software Schmidt, Eric E., 1955- ab: A former chief technology officer at Sun Microsystems, Eric Schmidt, who assumed the top spot at Novell in April 1997, has engineered an impressive turnaround of the Utah-based software firm. Recently, Novell posted its sixth consecutive profitable quarter, doubling its earnings and raising revenues by 13 percent to $286 million. In addition, the company's share price has quadrupled to about $25. Schmidt lowered costs and shipped a new version of Novell's main product, Netware. However, his smartest move was to locate another program at the center of the firm: Novell Directory Services, a type of comprehensive telephone book that is vital if IT administrators are to keep track of all the millions of “objects” on their increasingly complex networks. pubtype: Periodical doctype: Article src: R language: English refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: N holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
