The writer reviews various theoretical frameworks of problem solving, recommends a definition of the construct, and suggests ways of measuring the construct. In addition, he outlines the issues that are explored by the contributors to this special issue. He points out that these issues are organized into two groups: theoretical issues and methodological approaches and specific research applications. He states that articles in the first group are meant to provide a broad overview of theory and methodology in computer-based performance assessment of problem solving; and those in the second group are meant to offer a narrower, in-depth description of specific studies in this area. |
