      ab: Part of a special issue on computer-based performance assessment of problem solving. A study was conducted to investigate the relationship among expertise, state worry, and state self-efficacy during the administration of a computerized, job-related certification test. Multiple-choice formatted question items were used to create a certification test, which was then evaluated using standard psychometric techniques and administered by means of a computer-assisted testing system. Individuals who had just finished the certification test and who were willing to self-report how they felt during the administration of the certification test were administered a questionnaire containing state self-efficacy and state worry scales. Participants who were classified as masters, or experts, on the certification test demonstrated significantly higher levels of state self-efficacy and less state worry than did those who were classed as nonmasters on the same test. These results are consistent with the stated hypothesis and the research literature.
