Data were gathered from assessments of the postcommute behavior of 168 paid volunteers. Findings indicated that subjects who drove 48 kilometers or rode a bus the equivalent distance exhibited less frustration tolerance than did noncommuting control subjects. It was discovered that commuting also increased systolic blood pressure and pulse. In order to identify physiological and emotional responses that could mediate relations between commuting and frustration tolerance, multivariate analyses of covariance were performed.
