Sumario:Phone.com and Software.com completed a $6.4 billion merger the week of August 5, 2000, but the new company is unlikely to be able to rival Microsoft. The combined annual revenues of the two companies amount to only around $150 million, and although Software.com is a sound business, Phone.com has been considered a takeover candidate by analysts. Don Listwin arrives from Cisco to run the company, and if he can pull together two talented but very different developer teams, he may succeed in creating a company that can at least compete with Microsoft.
