They argue that CSGR is an innovative approach to cessation that has not been used previously with smokeless tobacco. They contend that by combining the flexibility and power granted by a handheld computer (HHC) with the benefits of self-help, CSGR may have advantages over currently available programs for smokeless tobacco cessation. Furthermore, they argue that extending CSGR beyond smoking cessation holds promise for using HHCs to pace delivery of pharmacological interventions such as nicotine gum and nicotine inhalers.
