ab: The true soundings of America's real character can be taken in mid-American cities like Dallas-Fort Worth rather than New York or Washington D.C. Many of the claims from coastal liberals that the region is a social and intellectual desert are inaccurate, and Dallas actually displays vividly both America's greatest strengths and some of its worst flaws. Materialism is very much in evidence, but there is an easy mixture of people across social and mental boundaries, and the people themselves are independent in the way they do things. The region as a whole is also remarkable for its religiosity, its respect of the arts and culture, and its pioneering of minimal government. A combination of these factors exemplifies the economic, technological, and social boom evident in North Texas.
