| Sumario: | A study was conducted to determine the significance of partners to lesbians' intergenerational relationships. Data were drawn from interviews with 40 lesbians in 20 couples living in the New York Metropolitan area. Of those surveyed, 35 were non-Hispanic white, three were African-American, and two were Latina. Findings revealed that since coming out, partners had a beneficial influence on most of the respondents' parents. Parents' attitudes about lesbianism had gradually changed from absolute disapproval to ambivalence since respondents' coming out. It is suggested that it is beneficial for social workers assisting lesbians with intergenerational problems to involve the client's partner in treatment. |
