| Sumario: | Both infrastructural and informal barriers continue to hamper research within social work. Infrastructural barriers include the paucity of funding for studies, grants, and more; the low visibility of social work schools among the larger university environment; and low levels of interdisciplinary collaboration between insular social work schools and others. Meanwhile, process preoccupation, an obsession with curriculum, overemphasis on teaching and service, and a tendency to pathologize productivity constitute some of the major informal barriers. The writer discusses each of these informal barriers in further detail.
