The company's mobile phone business has been struggling ever since its RAZR handsets went out of fashion in the late 2000s. There were indications of a comeback when the company bet on smartphones running Android, Google's operating system. The model known as Droid is quite popular, even leading the unit to its first profit in three years in the third quarter of 2010.
