      ab: In what could be its last chance for survival, the London Stock Exchange has chosen a new computerized trading system that was developed with Andersen Consulting and will cost about £50 million to implement by 1996. The new system will replace SEAQ's screen-based quotations and will implement SEATS, an order-driven system for illiquid shares. The exchange also plans to replace settlement with a system that a Bank of England-led taskforce will propose. After settlement is dropped, the exchange will be limited to running and monitoring a trading system, acting as a listing authority, and regulating primary issues, and it will be faced with competition from other firms in these areas.
