Endlessly interesting and strikingly colorful, fractal images, which are geometric figures in which the same motif is repeated at several different scales, have become a ubiquitous part of popular culture. Sculptor Rhonda Roland Shearer says that fractals are a new way of looking at space and form. Several composers are attempting to turn the geometry into music. The x, y, and z coordinates of each point of a fractal in space can be use to define pitch, duration, and volume. Various computer programs have been developed to produce such music.
