Sumario:In a few decades, corporations will evolve into virtual enterprises. Using integrated computer and communications technologies, companies will be increasingly defined by collaborative networks that connect hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of people to each other. Combinations of local and wide area computer networks will allow firms to form and dissolve business relationships at a moment's notice, creating new corporate ecologies. One employee will seem like an army of workers; work will collapse time and space. The need for businesses to run at high speeds, the low cost of market entry, the availability of personalized products, and the new global market are steering companies toward virtual enterprising. Already, 45 million workers in the U.S. spend more time on the road than in the office.
