The firm's 1989 MC machines, arguably the world's first true “notebook” computers, were followed in 1991 with the Series 3 range, which combines an electronic diary, notebook, address book, and mini-PC in a box the size of a spectacles case. Psion's automated assembly lines make it one of the world's most efficient computer firms, while close partnerships with suppliers also keep costs down. The problem is that Psion's competitors are some of the smartest companies in the business, and powerful potential rivals plan to enter the market too. While Psion is eager to remain independent, founder and chairman David Potter admits that the firm may need a bigger high-tech partner to continue on a path of innovation. pubtype: Periodical doctype: Article src: R language: English refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: N holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
