ab: A commentary on Peter B. Imrey's “Statistical Values, Quality, and Certification,” which appears in this issue. Although Imrey's article offers several examples of mistakes in statistical reasoning, these examples do not appear to be related to the certification issue. It is too much to expect that certification would bring respect to the statistical profession. Furthermore, certification has an inherent tendency to hinder innovation. As an alternative to certification, statisticians should speak out publicly and loudly when they notice statistical errors, whether they be errors of commission or omission.
