Analysis of variance computing package output for unbalanced data from fixed-effects models with nested factors.

Analysis of variance computer package output for unbalanced data from fixed-effects models with nested factors is discussed. Dallal (1992) described some difficult-to-understand sums of squares produced by computing packages. Dallal found that an analysis of certain data with two seemingly statist...

ab: Analysis of variance computer package output for unbalanced data from fixed-effects models with nested factors is discussed. Dallal (1992) described some difficult-to-understand sums of squares produced by computing packages. Dallal found that an analysis of certain data with two seemingly statistically similar models did not produce the same sum of squares for the two models for a range of packages. Several aspects of the disparities produced by the SAS GLM package for Dallal's data are considered.
