Subjects were 418 older adults who participated in a three-wave longitudinal study. The characteristics of 140 subjects who survived across all waves of the study to very old age were examined. Findings indicated that very old rural adults were most likely to live with others, to rely on others for transportation, to have relatively small proximate kin networks, and to view their overall health status as moderately good.
