DERIVE is a symbolic mathematics package that is particularly suited to undergraduate mathematics and that operates in an MS DOS environment. It might be assumed that DERIVE is less well suited to use by statisticians in their research of technical work because of its compact size and the attention to the educational audience. However, it is a worthwhile tool for several types of work, and it has relatively powerful capabilities that have broad usefulness where mathematical methods are applied.
