      ab: The writers outline the essentials of event history statistical procedures, or hazards models, which focus on the occurrence of events and the timing of these events, and illustrate these procedures using data on marital stability from two waves of the National Survey of Families and Households. They describe the advantages of event history analysis, review issues regarding data collection methods, and explain statistical procedures of event history analysis, including survival tables, continuous time models, and discrete time models. They reveal that individual assessments of marital stabilty at Wave 1, particularly from wives, have a substantial effect on the probability of separation. However, they demonstrate that even after individual assessments are taken into consideration, demographic factors such as age at marriage, marital duration, previous experience in a disrupted marriage, and birth of a child continue to have a significant relationship with marital stability.
