| Sumario: | The unique challenges posed to medical practice by computers were discussed at the recent Symposium on Computer Applications in Medical Care. A growing interest in ethics in medical informatics was indicated by the variety of questions raised and the attendance at the symposium's ethics sessions. Among the issues discussed were the uses, affects on standards of care, and possible changes in the physician–patient relationship associated with Medical Diagnostics Support Systems. The symposium was sponsored by the American Medical Informatics Association. |
