Three major national health survey systems that provide information on the understanding, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors relating to AIDS/HIV among the general population are discussed. The National Health Interview Survey and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System provide health information about adults, and the Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System examines health-related behaviors among young people. All 3 surveys can assist HIV-prevention efforts by providing information on the general population and identifying trends at national, state, and local levels. However, more comprehensive and targeted studies of specific high-risk populations are also needed in view of the complexity of the determinants of HIV risk behavior. Other surveys that provide relevant information on understanding, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors relating to AIDS/HIV are also described. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: Article src: R language: English refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: N holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
