Hypertension and other risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Hispanics were evaluated. Data, including systolic and diastolic blood pressure measurements, for Mexican American (MA), Cuban American (CA), and Puerto Rican (PR) men and women living in the continental U.S. were obtained for the Hispanic Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Higher rates of awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension were found for Hispanic women compared with men. Only 9 percent of CA and 8 percent of MA and PR hypertensive men had their high blood pressure under control. The prevalence of overweight among hypertensive men and women was 39–60 and 44–74 percent, respectively.
