| Sumario: | A study investigated the intentions of American publishers toward addressing the sexist bias in their textbooks. Data were obtained from interviews conducted in spring 1974 with 37 representatives of 15 New York educational publishers, encompassing, with subsidiaries and divisions, more than 200 educational publishers. Findings revealed that publishers and editors generally exhibited some awareness of feminist issues and some sensitivity to sexism in texts. However, findings indicated that they do not consider taking a strong initiative to eliminate that bias to be in their financial interests. Findings are discussed in detail. |
