Sumario:The lure of a new revenue flow combined with a fear of being left behind is driving schools and universities to provide online education courses, but few have really considered the possible pitfalls. Online education has become one of the hot tickets in the Internet economy. However, this proposition is terrifying, as investors in the last two years have switched from one red-hot Internet sector to the next, leaving companies devastated in their wake. The major attraction for schools is the lack of geographical boundaries, but this could also be a downfall for many, as too many E2Cs (edcation-to-consumer) compete for too few students. In addition, many providers do not understand the extent of what is required to set up, market, and maintain an online service that will hold up to competition. Schools that can create a niche and attract a global student base and those schools that already have distance-learning infrastructures and strong reputations will be the ones to succeed.
