| Sumario: | With the advent of low-priced, high-speed connections, more businesses and government agencies are putting their information systems online, making them vulnerable to unauthorized access. Most hacking or unauthorized access has occurred in Microsoft-based systems, as the majority of systems use some form of the Microsoft operating system. A protection plan should include the following precautions: Keep the operating system updated; close all unused software ports; unload the personal Web server and the virtual private networking adapter; unbind the file and print sharing service on the Internet connection device; install a firewall; install reputable antivirus software, keeping it updated; develop an acceptable and enforceable use policy; develop an emergency recovery plan; and limit e-mail and Internet access to those workers who need it. |
