| Sumario: | Since the establishment of the computer refurbishing program at South Central Correctional Center in Clifton, Tennessee, in 1995, over 8,000 computers have been refurbished by inmates and donated to public schools, saving the state roughly $800,000. State agencies send outdated computer models to the state's Surplus Property Division, which forwards the computers to South Central, where 21 trained inmates clean, refurbish and return the machines to the property division as complete, working systems. These computers are giving teachers and students the opportunity to learn about the Internet and the World Wide Web.
