| Sumario: | Part of a special issue on technological change in the workplace. A postmodern overview on computer technologies is provided. The very spirit of human labor is being is revolutionized in ways that cannot be described but are distinguished at a more inherent level. Moreover, the controversial area of the workplace, with its power relations and interpersonal conflict, has moved into the realm of information technologies, with companies battling to discover technologies that restrict the voicing of discontent among workers. However, companies are increasingly recognizing that they cannot restrict the Web's amazing ability to act as the depository of human feelings. The future of networked technologies, and their partnership with humans, is discussed.
