| Sumario: | The FBI's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (ViCAP) has helped local and state law enforcement agencies to solve violent crimes since the early 1980s. The goal of ViCAP has been to collect, collate, and analyze all elements of the investigation of similar-pattern, multiple murders nationwide. To do this, it needed a powerful, object-oriented, user-friendly software to integrate data, mapping reporting, and image-capturing tools. Thus, New ViCAP has evolved as a result of additional funding for ViCAP analysts provided by Congress in 1998. It provides an instructional and technological violent crime analysis tool suitable for use in any law enforcement agency, allowing a standard method for the communication of violent crime information between and among agencies. Moreover, it will soon provide a system to capture and analyze sex offenses as well as homicide-oriented crimes.
