The writer explores how feminism, particularly the academic feminism born of the second wave, can be seen as significantly influencing younger feminists in their very constitution as emerging feminist subjects. She asserts that the generation gap between the waves of feminists is not based so much on disagreement about particular issues as on a lack of honest communication in the first place. She argues that there is a disingenuousness about the character of power and resistance on both sides, one that not only leads to gross misunderstandings as reflected in the popular media, but one that also will impact on the nature and quality of cross-generational collaboration.
