Bush's Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which was signed into law in October 2001, has suffered a number of setbacks to its implementation at the federal level. In addition, most HAVA developments at the state level have been characterized by exclusion, bureaucracy, and blandness. The electronic voting aspect of HAVA means that computer-making corporations now have control over the electoral process, a situation that makes a mockery of democracy. |
