| Sumario: | At present, there are three profound systemic movements working at the global level, each of which involves the rapid cheapening of information. First, there is an acceleration of circulation of factors of production. Second, there is the challenge to the non-Western world posed by rapidly spreading ideas of political pluralism. Third, there is a “declining work ethic” that so far only affects the West. The fact that these three processes are occurring concurrently but are regionally out of phase prompts much of the international disorder currently observed. These three sets of internal clashes, which can be seen notionally strung out along history's continuum, are in actuality coming together during the present time. Given that the future will bring even more of the same, the challenge everywhere will be to maintain social cohesion and peace without foregoing the numerous benefits of cheaper information.
